ARTIST STATEMENT:
“The position of the artist is humble. He is essentially a channel.” -Piet Mondrian
I am a multimedia abstract artist based in Portland, Oregon. I seek to create art with a unique metaphorical language from a deep and profound place within myself, without imposing conscious thought or analysis on the resulting work.
My choice of medium, color and surface is intentional but I do not start with preconceived ideas or drawings. While I enjoy representational art, I prefer for my own work, the subtlety of abstraction, which I believe has a powerful capacity to ignite preverbal emotions and memories. I am a practicing Internal Medicine physician dedicated to lifelong interdisciplinary learning, and draw from the subconscious influence of many great artists, writers and poets.
Degas said, “It is not what you see, but what you make others see.” Using the medium of abstract expressionism, my goal is to make evocative art that helps myself and others to see...and feel.
