Melissa Graves Brown
Melissa Graves Brown received a BFA from Auburn University and an MFA from University of Pennsylvania in 1995. Living in Idaho for 24 years has greatly influenced her technique as well inspired her with its majestic landscapes. The swirling of fall leaves up into a deep blue Idaho sky has inspired her technique of splatters as if the leaves are lifting off the trees on a beautiful day. She paints with acrylic paint which allows her to work faster with many layers of washes, drips, and brush strokes. She is fond of laying her canvases flat and splattering from above to create a sense of motion.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
“My wish is that if you are reading this it is because my work conjured something within you. I grew up in Southwest Florida on a boat at the beach or in the water. My parents gave me my love & appreciation for the Arts as well as a passion for nature and being outdoors. It has been exciting to combine influences from east to west. Im expanding my imagery with things I adore from mountains to oceans and a few hearts along the way.”
