Stuart Shils
Stuart Shils arrived in Northern California and immediately became smitten with the Marin landscape and the shifting April light over the San Francisco Bay. His monotypes (and their attendant titles) reflect what concerns him the most in his work: the weather, the direction in which the artist faces, the time of day– in short, a specific moment. The quick hand and subtle tonal modulations in these prints gives Shils’s work immediacy. The landscapes he creates are the fusion between control and abandon, between the fleeting moment captured and the emotional resonance that continues to linger. The artist’s impressionistic works are not narrative but rather tap into the emotional vibrancy that exists just beneath the surface of each composition.
