Jay Davis

Jay Davis mines the margins where figuration and abstraction cross-pollinate. In his work produced at Aurobora, Davis combined various techniques—monotype printing, transfer, and collage—to further exploit this boundary and remind us that abstraction is firmly rooted in the objective world. Collaged elements –branches, leaves, flames, window- frames– force themselves into the center of the composition and partially obfuscate what suddenly becomes a clearly recognized background scene. Other works focus on starburst imagery where color rays flare-out from a central vanishing point. Each of these works on paper evidence how the artist embraces both abstraction and representation, denying any fixed narrative.
